East Tennessee is a land of mountains and valleys, towns and farms, and a way of life made special by a lingering sense of history and heritage. For almost two centuries, the East Tennessee Historical Society has worked to preserve this history and to share it with resident and visitors, and pass it forward as a gift to the future.

An annual leadership giving program, The 1834 Society recognizes multi-year commitments to help support and grow the East Tennessee Historical Society and Museum as an educational institution and premier destination attraction for the region’s residents and visitors. The 1834 Society membership recognizes gifts with a minimum cumulative total of $25,000.

HONORING THE PAST, SECURING THE FUTURE

Legacy businesses are long-standing community cornerstones that provide important services, host gathering spaces, foster connection, create memories, and nourish our sense of community. Through their tenure, these beloved businesses have helped shape East Tennessee’s unique and cherished identity. Membership in this Partnership offers the opportunity to memorialize and celebrate that rich corporate history.

Preserve Your Story and the Things You Value Most in Life - As we begin reflecting on our lives, our thoughts turn to the things that are important to us - family, friends, interests, causes. For many, history and education are priorities we would like to pass to the next and then to future generations. By making important estate planning documents, such as a will, you can define these wishes and also include gifts to support your favorite charitable causes.

Artifacts transcend time to communicate the stories of the past to us today and to continuing generations. These “messengers from the past” place us in the presence of history.
