Education
History is Important; Pass It On
Enthusing students with the joy of learning is a primary mission of the East Tennessee Historical Society (ETHS). A national study reveals that history education not only helps students understand the world around them but contributes toward the development of practical, measurable skills, such as better test performance, critical thinking, writing clarity, and a more mature perspective on current events and civic engagement.
ETHS serves a variety of creative programs for both students and teachers. All programs meet or exceed state and local curriculum requirements, as well as the new Common Core objectives.
The ETHS education department has been awarded funding for the 2023-2024 fiscal year through a second Arts and Culture Alliance American Rescue Plan (ARP) Renewal Grant. The Arts and Culture Alliance manages this grant program on behalf of Knox County and the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Funds support our educational programming efforts to combat the impact of lost instructional time for school children using evidence-based programs and services.
Additionally, ETHS is honored to have been awarded a grant for $2,500 from the First Horizon Foundation for classroom student scholarships.
