Lisa N. Oakley

As curator of education, Lisa N. Oakley is responsible for the development, promotion, and supervision of all ETHS student and teacher programs, which include interactive exhibit activities for students and award-winning teacher workshops and institutes. Lisa serves as project director for a number of grant projects, including the 2010-2013 “Enduring Visions” Teaching American History Grant project funded through the U.S. Department of Education (in partnership with the University of Tennessee Department of History and Anderson, Sevier, and Union County Schools). Lisa also serves as co-coordinator for the East Tennessee district competition of the Tennessee History Day program (the state affiliate of National History Day). She holds a B.A. in history from the University of Tennessee and an M.A. in history with an emphasis in historic preservation from Middle Tennessee State University. Her publishing contributions include various articles to The Tennessee Encyclopedia of History and Culture (1998, University of Tennessee Press) and the Encyclopedia of Appalachia  (2006, University of Tennessee Press), plus “From Frontier to Revival: The Evolution of Woodcraft in Tennessee” in Creating Traditions, Expanding  Horizons: 200 Years of the Arts in Tennessee (2004, University of Tennessee Press) and “Designing a Summer Teacher Institute” History News (American Association for State and Local History technical leaflet forthcoming in Spring 2005). Lisa is also volunteer coordinator.
