For its stellar work to research, document, and preserve the nationally significant history of the Coal Creek community, including the Coal Creek War, the abolishment of Tennessee's convict labor system, and the Fraterville and Cross Mountain mining disasters, and especially for employing history as a means to foster pride in family and place, ensuring that this history survives for generations to come.
