Where:
East Tennessee History Center Bilo Nelson Auditorium

Saturday, April 15, 2017 - 4:00am to Sunday, April 16, 2017 - 6:45am

Do you have an item made of marble quarried in East Tennessee that has been passed down in your family or purchased at a yard sale or auction or photographs or documents pertaining to the marble industry? If so, the East Tennessee Historical Society would like to know about it.

The East Tennessee Historical Society has been documenting the marble industry in East Tennessee counties. To aid in this project, ETHS is hosting a Marble Documentation Day on Saturday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 12. Members of the public who have a relevant item are encouraged to bring it to be recorded. We are also interested in related photos and documents. An added feature will be a panel discussion from 10:30 to 11:30 featuring Susan Knowles, PhD, from the Center of Historic Preservation at Middle Tennessee State University, who will moderate, and Sonja Jones, Finbarr Saunders, Jean Vestal, and Beth Wolf, who will talk about their experiences relating to the marble industry.

The program is free and open to the public. Guests will also be invited to see the museum and the feature exhibition Rock of Ages: East Tennessee's Marble Industry for free. The Museum of East Tennessee History is operated by the East Tennessee Historical Society and is located in the East Tennessee History Center at 601 S. Gay Street in downtown Knoxville, across from the Tennessee Theatre. For further information, call (865) 215-8829.
